LEFT HAND SIDE: A Silver color metal and enamel device in the shape of a Greek Spartan warrior shield divided vertically through the center, black and light blue, displaying across the upper portion of the device, a yellow striking lightning bolt issuing from the upper right to left, overall in the center a silver gray dagger. Surmounted and throughout the base of the device a silver gray bipartite scroll, entwined around the back of the dagger’s hilt inscribed “TO THE” to the left and “POINT” to the right in black. Overall dimension is 1 1/4 inches (3.18 cm) in height.

RIGHT HAND SIDE: A Silver color metal and enamel device in the shape of a Greek Spartan warrior shield divided vertically through the center, light blue and black, displaying across the upper portion of the device, a yellow striking lightning bolt issuing from the upper left to right, overall in the center a silver gray dagger. Symbolism: The Greek warrior shield shape which coincides with the spearhead insignia signifies the weaponry of the earliest elite warriors in history and highlights the importance of the Brigade’s operations to the overall war fight as being at the “tip of the spear,” alluding to the motto “TO THE POINT.” Light blue represents the Infantry capability of the long range surveillance soldiers. Black denotes the unknown characteristics of the future battlefields. The striking lightning bolt illustrates the Brigade’s mission of delivering heightened awareness and understanding to commanders, at all levels in the field. The dagger symbolizes the sharpness of the technical and tactical proficiency of all soldiers across the Brigade.

The distinctive unit insignia was authorized effective 1 September 2009. It was amended to correct the dimension on 20 January 2011.

On a stylized Greek spearhead shaped embroidered item divided vertically through the center, light blue and black, displaying across the upper portion of the item a yellow striking lightning bolt issuing from the upper left to the right, overall in the center a silver gray dagger, the hilt dark gray, point up; all within a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) yellow border. The overall dimensions are 3 1/4 inches (8.26 cm) in height and 2 1/4 inches (5.72 cm) in width.

A Silver color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned as follows: “Per pall inverted Gules, Azure and Or, in chief a mullet Argent and a griffin’s head erased Sable with an eye of the fourth (Silver) and in base a wing fesswise of the fifth garnished of the fourth (Silver).” Attached below the device is a Black scroll inscribed with “ON THE HUNT” in Silver letters.

Symbolism: Scarlet represents the 36th Armored Division Artillery (DIVARTY), which the unit transformed from. Oriental blue is the traditional color used by Military Intelligence. The yellow represents the 3d Squadron, 124th Cavalry. The lone star highlights the home of the Brigade, Texas. The griffin embodies vigilance, alertness, and courage reflecting the Brigade’s mission. Black and white/silver represents overt and covert operations and the night and day, twenty-four hour mission of the Battlefield Surveillance Brigade. The wing refers to the lineage of the 71st Airborne Brigade and the airborne elements of the 71st Battlefield Surveillance Brigade.

The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 29 July 2010.

A blue (oriental blue) arrowhead shaped device 3 inches (7.62 cm) in height and 2 1/2 inches (6.35 cm) in width overall bearing two yellow (goldenlight) lightning flashes pilewise, superimposed by a black griffin’s head erased with a white eye and brow, pupil black.

Symbolism: The arrowhead recalls the lineage of the 71st Airborne Brigade and the historical association as part of the 36th Infantry Division. The oriental blue is the traditional color of Military Intelligence; the griffin embodies vigilance, alertness, and courage reflecting the mission. The contrast of white and black symbolizes overt and covert operations, the night and day, twenty-four hour mission of the Battlefield Surveillance Brigade. The two lightning flashes represent electronic communication and warfare.

The shoulder sleeve insignia was approved on 29 July 2010.
